This giant white sturgeon was caught in the fall of 2005 on the Fraser River in British Columbia. An Internet tale that made the rounds in 2006 had the fish coming from the Rainy River. This spring, a new version of the tall tale has surfaced with the story that the fish was caught on the Missouri River north of Bismarck. White sturgeon, which aren’t found in either the Missouri or Rainy rivers, are the largest freshwater fish in North America. This particular sturgeon measured 11 feet and weighed about 1,000 pounds. As required by law in British Columbia, the behemoth sturgeon was released. (Len’s Sportfishing Adventures, www.lenssportfishing-bc.com)
